An Unexpected Invitation

Lord, how often have we forgotten how Mary

in her courageous “yes” chose to accept your

unexpected message, your invitation?

Lord, forgive our deafness and blindness,

for often we’ve refused to listen

to your unexpected message.

We’ve closed our eyes to your plan

and insisted on our way, on dreams,

on our passions, on our desires.

How often have we pleaded not to be disturbed.

How often have we asked not to look stupid

(like believing that These Three Are One).

How often have we closed our eyes.

Please let us go!

Free us from your gaze.

Leave us in peace and quiet.

Leave us in the solitude and silence of our heart.

Free us from this unexpected burden.

There are others more worthy of your message.

Where can we hide from your presence?

Lord, grant us the grace to say yes to the unknown.
