The City of Ruins: Warsaw, 1944, A Digital Video Reconstruction

The destruction of the city of Manila (Feb 4-Mar 3, 1944) during World War II has been compared as being on the same scale as the destruction of Warsaw (Aug 1-Oct 2, 1944), e.g. see Richard Connaughton, et al (1995) The Battle for Manila.

The Warsaw Rising Museum and Platige Image worked together to create a digital film to depict the scale of the historical destruction of the city of Warsaw. They wanted the viewer to experience the horror of the destruction by visually reconstructing the city from the view of a Liberator bomber flying over the city. In addition,  a haunting music by composer Adam Skorupa provided the mood of a mother mourning over her child.

Viewing and listening to the “City of Ruins” brings us close, not just to Warsaw, but to Manila. Please click on link below:
