List of Servants and their Amos During the Spanish Colonial Period

The Spanish colonial authorities kept records of almost everything. In the Philippine National Archives can be found a list of servants (with name and age) and their amos for the year 1854. The “amos” listed individuals, religious institutions, and even businesses. The first page below shows 10 amos (9 individuals and 1 institution). The Beaterio de Jesus listed only two servants. There are six amos in the second page alhough Ignacio Hidalgo was also listed in the 1st page. The whole report contains the names of a total of 1,571 servants.
