Basques in the Philippines – Jacobo Zobel and Trinidad Ayala y Roxas

Elfren S. Cruz, professor of Strategic Management at the MBA Program, Ramon V. Del Rosario College of Business, De La Salle University-Manila, posted last Sept 12, 2011 (see http://www.bworldonline.com/content.php?section=Opinion&title=Basques-in-the-Philippines&id=38127) his commentary on the book, Basques in the Philippines, by Marciano R. de Borja, University of Nevada (2005). One of the prominent names mentioned was Maria Trinidad, daughter of Antonio de Ayala and Margarita Roxas, who married Jacobo Zobel in 1876. In the Philippine National Archives can be found a document dated Sept 10, 1896, “licencia marital y mandato otorgado por Excelentisimo Senor Don Jacobo Zobel a favor esposa Excelentisima Senora Dona Trinidad Ayala y Roxas.”
