Easter Sunday 2012, Most Holy Trinity Parish, Balic-balic, Sampaloc, Manila

the frozen shoulder came first,

foolish one, he didn’t know it then,

his body’s pain a foretaste of a soul’s

slow descent into the abyss of a long dark night,

buried falsehoods and unjust judgements,

stripped of title, of position, of coins,

and worse, even of one’s humble name,

the only thing left of one’s dignity,

conspired to be destroyed.

the frozen shoulder came first,

foolish one, he didn’t know it then,

after the body then, the soul,

lips remained immobilized,

unable to sing the great Amen,

the coldness of anger, fear,

despair, and helplessness,

freezes all joy and hope.

the frozen shoulder came first,

foolish one, he didn’t believe it then,

the long and cold dark night will not last,

hold fast to faith, endure even till the edge of no return,

not by your will, but by the power and grace of These Are One.

the great fire of love, light of the world, unleashed to melt all darkness,

the great spirit of rebirth and resurrection to all those who waited,

even to those who doubted the power of light over darkness,

the great chorus of praise and thanksgiving, of joy and happiness,

even to those who doubted the power of powerlessness.

Frozen shoulder no more, eyes of faith gazing

Frozen lips no more, songs of alleluia praising,

Frozen feet no more, dance of service giving,

Frozen heart no more, poems of forgiveness releasing,

Frozen hands no more, sign of the cross baptizing,

body and spirit resurrected,

In the Only Name that matters,

the Father,

the Son,

and of

the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

In These Are One.
