“A very interesting essay on devotional literature is that of Martin R. Gaerlan – “Sulyap sa Santatlo: Iconography of the Santisima Trinidad as Depicted in Philippine Colonial Period Devotional Literature” – which notes what he considered “the often neglected study of Trinitarian devotion in the Philippines amidst the more popular Cristological and Marian devotional piety.” The essay, written in 2014 on the 493rd anniversary of Christianity’s beginnings in the Philippines, focuses on the introduction of Trinitarian novena literature during the Spanish colonial period and on the unique Trinitarian images found in Philippine Trinitarian novenas.”

Quote from Foreword, Bernardita Reyes Churchill, Issue Editor, Manila: Selected Papers of the 23rd Annual Manila Studies Conference (2015).
