Orange Calabash Road circa March 2016

March 5 2016 calabash

After almost seven months (August 2015-March 2016), the Calabash Road Drainage Improvement Project reached the final stages with the upgrading of the Calabash Park which included the pedestrian walk, the plant boxes, and, of course, the tarpaulin with Batang Maynila’s Mayor Joseph Estrada’s photograph. Note that Estrada’s shirt color (orange) is the same color used by the landscape contractors. Yes, Calabash Orange.

  1. Hi Bro. Martin without a surprise, Mayor Erap or his men will surely find a way to advertise their political agenda using the orange color. Maybe the DPWH or the City Administrator have at least some knowledge why the gutters were painted orange instead of white, the black and yellow stripe or any other standard street paint or signage. I’m an Architect born and raised in B.Balic and now thinking maybe some development solutions or improvements in the Calabash St. sorroundings. Inspired by your blog and your book about the history of B.Balic Cemetery and now MHTP, I was wondering maybe a historical marker be placed somewhere the vicinity. But first, may i ask for your help in the documentation sources and maybe we can work together sometime for the declaration of this Calabash St. as a Park/Historical area to be considered by the LGU and the NCCA for protection and funding for improvements?
The second thing is if we can name it as Legarda Park, in honor of the Legarda’s and later a monument be erected in place?

  2. yes, we can explore further – mrgaerlan2004@yahoo.com
